Regatta Season
Ętes-vous pręt? Partez

"Any race you can walk away from, is a bad race" -- Pete Waters

PWRC voluneers will be supporting the following events for the 2008 season. These events were chosen by the PWRC board of directors using criteria that included prior experiences with the hosting organizations, available club resources, expected club turnout, cost to participants, and overall desire expressed among club members. If there is an event that you do not see on this list, please contact the PWRC Regatta Director.

  • Capital Sprints - Washington DC (Saturday July 12, 2008)
  • Diamond States - Middletown, DE (Sunday July 27, 2008)
  • Quaker City - Philadelphia, PA (Saturday August 2, 2008)
  • Wye Island - Near Easton, MD (Saturday September 13, 2008)
  • Head of the Potomac - Washington, DC (Sunday September 21, 2008)
  • Head of the Ohio - Pittsburgh, PA (Saturday September 27, 2008)
  • Occoquan Challenge - Fairfax, VA (Sunday October 5, 2008)
  • Occoquan Chase - Fairfax, VA (Sunday October 12, 2008)
  • * Head of the Charles (HOCR) - Boston, MA (Saturday October 18, 2008)
  • + TBD - (Saturday October 25, 2008)
  • Head of the Occoquan (HOTO) - Fairfax, VA (Saturday November 1, 2008)

* HOCR has certain criteria for selection and participation in this race as there is a limit to the number of boats allowed to race. PWRC board and coaches will determine the priority of competitive boats that will be submitted to the HOCR lottery.

+ TBD - The board is currently weighing the option of attending either the Head of the Schuylkill or the Head of the Lafayette on the Weekend of October 25.

Members of good standing gain the benefit of club support including:

  • Event planning and coordination.
  • Event registration and waiver submission.
  • Race day support and communication between the hosting organization, officials, and PWRC participants concerning particulars of a race.
  • Use of PWRC sanctioned racing shells, oars, and other equipment.
  • Transportation of the trailer and equipment to the race site.

Although PWRC strives to ensure everyone has an opportunity to compete, we cannot guarantee that opportunity. Members wishing to participate in any event must complete and submit a preregistration form indicating their desire to participate. This helps your coach and the board of directors allocate club resources to better suit your desires.

There are two racing seasons, summer sprints and fall head races. In order to participate in the sprint racing season, members must submit all required materials pertaining to sprint racing to the Regatta Director by Saturday July 5, 2008. In order to participate in the fall racing season, members must submit all required materials pertaining to fall season head races to the Regatta Director by Saturday August 30, 2008.

If you have any questions, please contact the PWRC Regatta Director.

Note: "Et vous prez… PARTE!" is French for "Are you ready… ROW!" This is an optional racing start.
