What to wear:
Fitted shorts (like biking shorts) or leggings (if it's cool); a tank or
t-shirt that is not loose-fitting; cotton socks, comfortable athletic shoes
for the dock and the barge.
What to bring:
- Sunglasses
- Cap/hat/visor
- Sunscreen
- A light jacket or sweatshirt (if the weather warrants)
- Bottled water or sports drinks (please note no alcohol is permitted inside the park)
What to expect:
When you arrive at Lake Ridge Park Marina, park at the lower parking
lot near the boathouse and docks. There will be Prince William Rowing Club
members standing by to assist with signing in at the registration table. There
is no fee charged for attending our Learn to Row Days.
After participants have registered and signed a US Rowing approved and
mandated waiver, Prince William Rowing club members will provide a tour
of the boathouse facilities, followed by a bit of instruction on indoor
rowing machines on the dock. After that you will be placed on a barge,
where qualified coaches will familiarize you with the commands used during
rowing. The barge is a stable platform set up just like a rowing shell,
and you will actually be able to sit behind an oar and go through the
rowing motion. Following this introduction, we'll give you a talk on safety,
place you in an actual eight person racing shell along with experienced
rowers, and you will have the opportunity to row out on the water for a
short while.
